After dancing with New York City Ballet for fourteen years and enjoying a successful subsequent career as a dance photographer, Steven Caras became Miami City Ballet's Ballet Master and Company Photographer in the early 1990's.
During this productive period, Caras also directed the company's apprentice program where he was given an opportunity to not only train the young dancers, but to choreograph specific works for them as well.
Upon moving north to Palm Beach County, Steven Caras accepted Ballet Florida's invitation to serve as their Artistic Liaison where he was instrumental in bringing eleven new works into the company's repertory. In addition to training and rehearsing the dancers, he also created an entirely new image for the troupe on film, significantly elevating their public impact.
Today, Caras enjoys various freelance guest instructor assignments, which at times will consist of the staging and/or rehearsing of ballets by choreographers including *George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Peter Martins, and Sean Lavery.
As a highly regarded teacher, Steven Caras derives immense pleasure from sharing his thorough knowledge of classical ballet when conducting master classes, coaching, or working with dancers on specific choreographic works.
